Keeping Ourselves Safe

This term, one of our topics is Keeping Ourselves Safe.

Keeping Ourselves Safe [KOS] is a comprehensive child protection programme in which students learn and apply a range of safety skills that they can use when interacting with others.

There is a parent information evening tomorrow night in the staff room run by Community Constable Tania Wansink from 6.30pm.

If you have any other questions, please come and ask.

Thanks. Nikki

St John's Visit

Today we spent time with Max, a paramedic from St John's.

We talked about why and when we might need an ambulance. We knew the emergency number to call.

We met Amby the little Ambulance. We looked at the parts and colours of an ambulance. We also had to listen to identify the emergency noise that Amby made. You can watch us below.

Here are some things we learned today:
Nash: "I learned how an oxygen tank works."
Chloe: "I listened to the sound of an ambulance."
Kobe: "I learned about not climbing ttrees tooo high."
Bree: "I learned that the oxygen from the tank can make you better and it's not scary."
Riley: "I learned about the noises of emergency vehicles."

Road Safety Week.

This week is Road Safety week.
We are learning to be safe on and around the road.

We spent time with Constable Wansink learning how to safely cross the road.

We remember to hold hands with an adult.
We stop, look and listen before we cross the road.
We look both ways.
You can watch us safely crossing the road.

We also talked about where to safely cross around Torbay School.
We should cross at the top Zebra crossing or the Kea Crossing.

We think we could say "I think we should cross at the crossing because it is much safer."

Our poem this week is also about Road Safety.

Here are some things we learnt this week:
Nash learnt to look both ways.
Adam learnt to walk quickly when we were crossing the road.
Tillie learnt to not look at her feet but to look both sides for cars.
Chloe learnt to not run across the road.
Shaneel learnt to hold hands when we cross the road.
Kobe learnt to go across the rad when the crossing guards say " Cross Now"
Reuben learnt to Stop, Look and Listen and to look both ways.

Rhythm Interactive

Today we had an incredible session with Johnny from Rhythm Interactive.

We all had a drum to use.

Johnny uses positive language to inspire confidence and participation. The children copied his rhythms by clapping, drumming and yelling.

We learned a rhythm that goes: "We love drums!  We love drums! We love drums, drums drums!" Ask us to show you.

Every child was engaged.
